Pre-Mining

This phase of mining is typical and it should be designed very carefully, not only for quality extraction of mineral but also to safeguard the investment, as it is for long time. Many unforeseen circumstances, hindrances, geological lags, Market uncertainty & inflation, Parallel competitive products, Sales forecasting, Govt policies, Local Politics and many other causes are responsible to maintain the economic standards of mine.

This stage has some steps –

Preparation of Economic Feasibility Report for the viability of Granite/Marble Mines against geological structure with information available
Assessment of Colour, Texture, Freshness, Mechanical & Physical Properties and Marketability of blocks produced etc.
Preparation of Detailed Project Report, Mining Plan, Scheme of Mining, EIA, EMS, OHSAS, R&R, CSR etc.
Clearances from all concerned department and stakeholders.
Implementing Statutory Govt formalities to acquire and run a mine.
Selection of Mine Developer and Operator

Mining Operations

This phase requires adequate working capital investment against targeted annual production. All required machineries and ancillary equipment are purchased/outsourced as per order of phases in operation. Removal of overburden is succeeded by winning of Mineral in Stair formation. The gestation period is nearly 2-3 months and Mineral is exposed.

This stage has some steps

Recruitment of MDO, Petty contractors, Engineers & Technicians, other officials, Statutory persons etc.
Construction, Installation & commissioning of all infrastructure facilities.
Fixing the location of BOX-CUT or GALI & Toda at right angle.
Planning, Designing, Opening, Development and Winning of mineral for safe and economic mining.
Machine availability management with condition monitoring.
Production Planning & Control as per Sales forecasting and Mining Plan, Quality inspection and Despatch schedules.
Monthly internal audit and assessment of Quality, Cost, Environment, Occupational Health & Safety, Capital expenditure and Availability of fund.
Provision of EMS, OHSAS, Vocational Training to employees, Welfare of employed persons, and to carry out the provisions laid in Circulars, Act, Bye-laws, Rules and Regulations.
Handling discrepancies with government department and stakeholders.
Provision of MIS & ERP.

Post-Mining

Implementation of Mine Closure Planning –

After successful completion of lease period, it is auctioned again and the current lease holder may retain it, as per term and conditions in tendering.

If there is no scope of further running the mine due to exhaust of mineral, Mine closure planning is adopted. Actually it starts nearly 5 years before the closure. During such period and after closure, Mine Closure Planning process is initiated as Progressive & Final Mine Closure Planning.

Rehabilitation & Resettlement –

Another aspect is Rehabilitation & Resettlement of the persons employed, villagers affected and other stakeholders.
